What is it?

DevOps is a term used to represent a set of practices, tools and a working philosophy that, as far as is possible, automates and integrates the processes between software development and IT teams. The idea is that with a more collaborative, interdisciplinary approach where the previously separate domains of development and operations used to be treated as such, the overlapping of skills integrates them into a single, continuous process.

As IT systems are now constantly evolving due to improvements in hardware, operating system updates and security patches, it makes much more sense to merge the previously siloed development and operations teams and roles.

There are many tools now available with the advent of higher level languages such as Python and Javascript becoming popularised and repositories of open source code such as GitHub and NPM. These are used to automate many aspects of the building, testing and deployment processes, accelerating them and allowing quicker and more reliable updates to software when bugs are fixed or updates to the system architecture requires changes.

Seventy9 IT staff understand the importance of this collaborative, multidisciplinary skills ethos, allowing us to work with your business at any or all stages of a project, from conceptualisation, through development and to deployment with the continuous 8-stage process that defines the DevOps lifecycle.
